Compare JIB CRANES which can be free standing jib cranes or wall (column) mounted. Jib cranes are unique in that they can handle a large amount of weight from a single support point.

A free standing crane can have 360 degree of freedom around the central post. The mounting of the post can be in three ways. 1. The use of a base plate at the bottom of the column. This plate is bolted to a concrete floor. The higher the lifting capacity of the crane, the larger the diameter of the support plate. This takes up a lot of space around the column. 2. Foundation insert. Here the column has extra length which is inserted into the ground and held with concrete. 3. Sleeve insert. Here a sleeve is inserted into the ground and the extended part of the column is fit into the sleeve.

Wall or column mounted jib cranes have 180 to 200 degree freedom to swing from side to side. They are mounted either cantilever where the support bracket is under the jib, or with tie rod support which requires space above the jib.
