Vibration Switches

Compare VIBRATION SWITCHES that combine the vibration sensing and alarm output into one compact vibration switch. The alarm in a vibration switch is most commonly used to alert you when the machine to which it is attached is vibrating at a dangerous level. Corrective action can then be taken before it become very costly.

Vibration switches are devices that sense vibrations and respond to them. They can either warn when vibrations are too high or too low. If the vibration is too high, the machine that the vibration switch is attached may suffer a malfunction. If the vibration is too low, it could be a signal that the machine is no longer running.

Limits of vibration are manually adjusted in vibration switches. In some models this is done in two levels. The first is when vibration becomes high enough to warrant attention. The second level is when the vibration becomes so high that the machine is shut down. These points are preset in the switch. An analog output signal can be used to track the vibration level.

Vibration switches are either mechanical or solid state. The mechanical vibration switch uses the travel of a spring to determine the amplitude of the vibration. The solid state vibration switch uses a piezoelectric element to determine the amplitude of vibration. Mechanical switches tend to be cheaper and do not require power. Solid state switches are more precise and is more reliable. Some vibration switches are designed for demanding environments with NEMA 4 and explosion proof enclosures
